Abstract
Pregnant. Sprague-Dawley rats were X-irradiated to 200r on 8 th day of gestation and sacrificed on the 21st day.
Gross examinations were, carried out to all the fetuses obtained in these pregnancy.
Randomly selected fetuses from each litter were cleared and stained with alizarin red S. These, specimens were examined low power stereoscope for the study of skeletal development under
The results obtained through the .experiment were summarized as follows.
1. Various abnormalities including microcephalia, abnormal mandible and ecterodacilia appearedmot infrequently.
2. The decrease in the overall size of ossified bones of trunk and extremities were observed.
3. Marked retardation of ossification process occurred, especially in the caudal vertebrae, ribs, ¢¥sternum, metacarpals, metatarsals and, phalanx.
